Harbor School is seeking an Elementary School teacher to begin August 23, 2021. This is a full time, exempt position. Founded in 1995, Harbor School is a K-8 independent school on Vashon Island. With a 10:1 student-teacher ratio and guided by the cornerstone values of compassion, personal best, integrity, accountability, respect, and responsibility, Harbor School maintains distinct campuses for Kindergarten-Grade 3 and for Grades 4-8. Our mission is to inspire young scholars to contribute their wisdom, compassion, and personal best in the classroom, the community, and the world. Vashon Island is a beautiful, rural island, only a 15 minute ferry ride from Seattle, Washington. DESCRIPTION: The Elementary Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing instructional programming that promotes the academic, social-emotional, and physical growth of students in a multi-age K-3 classroom, in alignment with the mission of the Harbor School. Working closely with colleagues and the Head of School, s/he: - integrates research-based, best practices and appropriate educational technology to support and differentiate instruction;
- encourages and monitors the progress of students and communicates regularly with students’ families about their progress;
- participates in faculty meetings and professional development programming;
- supports the school’s strategic, retention, and recruiting efforts through committee work and admissions events;
- adheres to the expectations outlined in the Faculty Handbook and fulfills other duties as assigned.
