Position Description Friends Academy, Independent Quaker Day School, PS-12th grade is seeking experienced full-time Lower School Teachers Grades 1-4 for the Fall, 2021, School Year, 2021-2022. Lower School Head Teachers should be eager to engage in an ongoing collaboration with colleagues on the grade level team, specialist area teachers, and administration. All faculty members are expected to support activities and events that contribute to the life of the school and to attend departmental, divisional, and all-school staff meetings, and perform other duties as assigned. - the ability to manage the behavior in a classroom consisting of 16-18 students using the Responsive Classroom (or similar) approach
- a commitment to professional development to grow in current and best educational practices in reading, writing, math, and social studies
- the ability to study curriculum and do the intellectual work needed to deliver instruction at a high level
- knowledge and experience with the Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop model
- knowledge and experience with Singapore math and/or the CPA (concrete, pictorial, abstract) approach to mathematics
- experience with Problem Based Learning
- a strong understanding of how to use formal, informal, summative, and formative assessments to plan lessons and units of study, as well as help students, reach their potential
- effective, excellent oral and written communication skills
