• Teach five sections of Upper School English (Grades 9-12) collaborating with colleagues to develop a dynamic curriculum that fosters appreciation of literature and builds skills in writing and analysis
  • Use a variety of assessments including student portfolios to measure and respond to student learning and engagement. Provide feedback on student assignments in a timely and constructive manner.
  • Create a positive and safe classroom culture and community.
  • Use ICS technology systems including the School’s Learning Management System to provide students with course materials and feedback, and as needed, to teach students in a virtual and/or hybrid-flexible mode.
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and staff members.
  • Work with the Upper School Principal and faculty to ensure high quality education and an engaging experience for students.
  • Write student reports as required.
  • Collaborate with an English department that is committed to building reading, writing, analytical, and communication skills while centering diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to a group of students.
  • Attend all divisional, departmental, and school faculty meetings including professional development days.
  • Desire to be actively engaged in the work of innovative teaching, diversity and inclusion, and ongoing professional growth.
  • Other duties such as lunch/study hall/chaperoning/etc. as assigned by Upper School Principal


  • Experience teaching Upper School English, and the ability to teach Upper School English to students in Grades 9 through 12.
  • Resilient, mission-driven, and proactive in creating and implementing an innovative curriculum
  • Excellent communication, written, and organizational skills
  • Genuine excitement for working with Upper School students
  • Coaching and outdoor education experience preferred
  • Collaborative by nature, and an effective communicator with students, teachers, administrators, and families.
  • Proficient user of technology and experience with a Learning Management System
  • College degree, preferably advanced degree, in English or a related field.
  • Educational philosophy which aligns with the mission and core values of ICS.
