Pace Academy’s Lower School seeks an expert science teacher with a passion for the subject and a gift for inspiring young minds as they discover how major concepts in science and scientific thinking inform the world around them. The ideal candidate is excited by the idea of helping our youngest students become prepared, confident global citizens with the skills to explain and explore scientific phenomena, and to think critically about data and information so that they can be applied to everyday life. The successful candidate will oversee the implementation of the Pre-First through fourth-grade science curriculum. Working in close collaboration with our STEAM program, our Design Thinking program and the Isdell Center for Global Leadership, the science teacher will be responsible for creating daily lesson plans and learning activities that incorporate technology and engage students in real-world global issues, allowing them to explore, explain, expand and evaluate their own findings. The ideal candidate should also embrace professional collaboration with colleagues and have a desire to engage with fellow teachers across all subject areas. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Prepares course objectives and outlines for courses of study
- Delivers high-quality, engaging science instruction in the form of discussion, direct teaching, demonstrations and independent practice using a variety of proven methods to students in grades Pre-First through four
- Creates a classroom environment that promotes students' curiosity and critical thinking, and that empowers students to express and share points of view, solve problems and make decisions based on evidence
- Encourages an atmosphere of collaborative teamwork in the classroom that teaches students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully, justify their reasoning and consider multiple perspectives when solving problems
- Effectively manages and maintains a safe, well-organized science lab with all the necessary materials required for an engaged learning experience
- Works cooperatively with the directors of STEAM, Design Thinking and the ICGL to deliver a congruent educational experience
- Effectively incorporates principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in teaching and classroom culture
- Attends mandatory training, professional development and education in antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion
- Models and reinforces the Lower School Code of Conduct
- Reports student progress through regularly scheduled reports
- Communicates effectively with parents in a timely manner
- Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops
- Attends faculty meetings, grade level parent gathering, admissions testing, Sunday Sundae, Open House and Graduation
- Participates in the co-curricular activities of the school community (such as coaching, sponsoring clubs, etc.)
