Dwight-Englewood School, the largest independent school in Bergen County, NJ, and a growing, vibrant, and diverse learning community in the New York City metro area, is seeking to fill Eighth Grade Science/Math teaching position. Beginning work in our brand new Middle School building, the teacher will have the unique opportunity of developing the culture and systems of this new space in collaboration with the grade level team and administration. The teacher will work closely with teachers of other disciplines to provide age-appropriate instruction in reading, writing, and critical thinking. Grounded in the school’s mission statement, the Middle School faculty are further characterized by the following traits: student-centered, collaborative, engaging, and process over product oriented. We seek an energetic, curious teacher who wants to inspire students to learn more about themselves and the world around them. Essential Responsibilities: - Actively support the Mission of the School and put that vision into daily practice.
- Teach four sections of class which meet for four fifty-minute periods per week, two in 8th grade Math and two in 8th grade Science.
- Meet weekly with the eighth grade team to discuss students and to coordinate instruction and curriculum.
- Attend weekly departmental and/or divisional meetings after school.
- Serve as an advisor to a small group (usually around ten) of eighth grade students
- Participate in overnight field trips and day trips as a chaperone.
- Provide extra help during TAG periods, before school, or other times as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned, such as lunch supervision, etc.

- A true love of working with middle school students, and 13-14 year olds specifically.
- A personality that is approachable, encouraging, and positive.
- Experience with cross-curricular instruction, project-based learning, and process-based feedback.
- Clear, consistent, and dynamic communication with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Experience leading advisory programs and/or other student-centered programs.
- A growth mindset.
Terms of Employment: - This is a 10-month teaching position.
- Teachers commit to eight-hour workdays as well as attendance at faculty meetings and other school-wide meetings and events.
- Professional days are considered workdays and participation in planned activities is mandatory.
