Details Posted: February 11, 2021 Location: Culver City, California Show Map Type: Part Time - Administration Category: Other Required Education: 4 Year Degree POSITION OVERVIEW: Our private independent school is seeking a School Nurse/Health Specialist to care for our students, employees, and guests and manage campus health and safety. We seek a caring, compassionate, experienced professional who has excellent listening skills, prioritizes communication and engagement, and can manage campus health services. The position requires administrative work as well as one-on-one time with students and employees. We are looking for an individual who truly cares about making our school a better place. This job has two primary focuses 1) to coordinate services to manage, prevent, and/or reduce health issues and 2) respond to and treat illnesses and injuries as they arise. We currently serve approximately 180 students and 55 employees during the school year. The ideal candidate will: Be an exceptional, caring health professional who is up-to-date on best practices in pediatric nursing and child development Have exceptional organizational skills and follow through Be excited to work with young children Have exceptional social emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills Be excited to work in partnership with parents to support student wellbeing and developmental growth Have strong written and oral communication skills Be an independent problem-solver Take initiative and possess the ability to implement action Be a reflective and empathetic practitioner with strong listening skills Be an exemplary role model to students and faculty alike Have a positive attitude and an enthusiastic outlook and possess a growth mindset Duties and Responsibilities Collect, update, and maintain health information on students, faculty, and staff in Magnus Liaise with local department of health when there are suspected or confirmed cases of communicable diseases Provide first aid to students, employees, parents, and guests as needed. Refer to clinics or other facilities as required. Communicate calmly and efficiently with parent/guardians regarding health related issues Evaluate employees with work related injuries or illnesses, refer them to the Business Office if outside care is required. Conduct daily attendance tracking of students and staff to monitor trends Coordinate with counselors and therapists regarding behavioral health needs of students Coordinate the acquisition of supplies and materials necessary to run the Health Office and quarantine room Insure AED is properly maintained and calibrated Coordinate with the student’s family and health care team on an alternate asthma medication delivery system in the event of acute respiratory distress Advocate as needed for remote instruction for medically fragile students Collaborate with leadership, faculty, and staff on creating school-wide protocols that prevent, minimize, and control communicable diseases Coordinate health and safety certifications for employees (CPR/First Aid, Concussion, etc.) Review and modify emergency plans (shelter in place, evacuations, etc.) so they reflect considerations applicable to injuries and communicable diseases Insure students meet current immunization requirements Consult with leadership on communication to the various constituents about safety protocols and expectations Insure student medication is properly authorized, stored, and dispensed *Other duties as assigned by the Head of School and CFO Qualifications Four (4) years of pediatric nursing experience in a hospital, clinic, or school environment preferred, EMT or Paramedic license will be considered Bachelor's Degree and CA registered nurse license preferred Valid School Nurse Services Credential preferred Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, faculty, staff, students and parents) via strong communication skills. Proficiency in the English language required. Computer proficiency required. Current certifications in CPR with AED and first aid.
