Details Posted: February 12, 2021 Location: Honolulu, Hawaii Show Map Type: Full Time - Faculty Category: Visual/Performing Arts Chorus Teacher `Iolani School seeks a full-time Chorus teacher for the 2021/2022 academic year.In addition to being active participants in our vibrant learning community, we are looking for educators who will inspire and support our students. The ideal candidate is dynamic, a strong communicator (both written and oral) and committed to professional growth in their discipline and teaching practice. Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience teaching choral music to students in grades 4 –12. Having the ability to accompany vocal ensembles is preferred. An advanced degree in Music is preferred. Candidates should be comfortable designing and executing curriculum and embrace the use of instructional technology in their work. Required Qualifications: Degree in music education (preferably with an emphasis in Choral Conducting) Classroom teaching experience and a thorough understanding of a flexible pedagogical approach to meet the varying needs of young singers from elementary school through high school Experience in vocal pedagogy and the physiological development of young singers and the kinesthetic relationship between the voice and the body Experience in the pedagogy of teaching singers to read music, including sight-singing Experience in preparing and presenting diverse choral literature, including contemporary, classical, Hawaiian, multicultural and other popular idioms Experience in preparing and presenting liturgical choral literature Strong collaborator who is prepared to work closely with other members of the Performing Arts faculty Demonstrated commitment to teaching diverse populations Proven dedication to inclusive pedagogies and commitment to inclusion as a core value Preferred Qualifications: Strong pianist/accompanist and ability to read open score Strong vocal ability (and ability to model for students) Experience conducting both choral and instrumental ensembles Experience with composition and/or arranging for choral ensembles Experience teaching AP Music Theory Experience with music technology, including but not limited to Sibelius, Finale, Dorico, Flat.io Noteflight or comparable composition software and DAWs such as GarageBand, Soundtrap, or professional grade audio software Interested applicants should submit their cover letter and resume to our online application accessible through our employment webpage, https://www.iolani.org/employment.
