Lakeside School, an independent 5-12 coeducational day school located in North Seattle is currently recruiting for a Spanish Teacher to teach both upper and middle school students.  This is a .75 one-year appointment for the 2021-2022 academic year.  At Lakeside School, we are committed to academic excellence, diversity, and global citizenship. Responsibilities
The Lakeside School language program at Lakeside Middle School is rigorous with an emphasis on oral proficiency at every level. The ideal candidate will join a diverse team of colleagues who are creative, collaborative, and constantly exploring best practices for inclusive and culturally responsive language pedagogy. The candidate will join upper and middle school faculty committed to providing the best educational experience possible for our 5th-12th grade students. Specific responsibilities include:
 

1. Teach three classes; two in the US and one in the MS;
2. Teach a diverse student body with varying experiences and exposure to language instruction with an emphasis on building oral proficiency, promoting students' ability to read and write in the language, and exploring the culture and history of the Spanish-speaking world;
3. Provide academic support outside of the classroom for students with different learning styles and strengths;
4. Collaborate and participate in the work of the language department on innovative, inclusive and equitable curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment practices;
5. Write evaluations of students at each marking period;
6. Attend department and faculty meetings as scheduled;
7. Will serve as a co-advisor;
8. Participate in the life of the school community, faculty meetings, departmental meetings, and general engagement with student life.

Requirements and Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in foreign language pedagogy or a related field.
2. Native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English.
3. Experience teaching at a high-school and middle-school level.
4. Demonstrate cultural awareness, such as knowledge of themselves, their biases and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions including how privilege and its impact on different communities.
5. Integrates different perspectives and identities (such as race, class, gender, ethnicity, sexual preferences, etc.) into curriculum and class activities.
6. Creates an inclusive learning environment where all students feel seen, valued and heard.
7. Experience in an immersion setting using communicative and task-based pedagogical practices.
8. Collaborate on a teaching team.
9. Using Spanish for authentic communication is preferred.
10. Candidates must satisfactorily complete two criminal background checks.
