POSITION TITLE: Dean of Students. (FLSA Exempt) R. 1.21
HOURS - Approximately 40 hours per week;
- Year round full time position;
- Weekend and evening hours required as needed; and
- The employee shall be considered to be on duty whenever a need exists for their services
SUMMARY
The Dean of Students’ primary role is to oversee and manage campus safety and discipline. This includes oversight of student infractions, attendance, safety and security, parking lot procedures, and the Dean’s Office budget. The Dean of Students reports to the Assistant Principal for Student Services and is a member of the Principal’s Leadership Team and the School Leadership Council. The Dean of Students must be someone who models cura personalis with the entire community – students, parents, faculty, and staff members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Student Behavior and Discipline -
Works with students and faculty to maintain a safe educational environment and positive school culture; -
Establishes an active and visible administrative presence with all members of the school community; -
Develops, manages, and enforces social policies, codes of conduct, and attendance protocols, and practices that serves to support student development, learning, health, and safety; -
Participates in investigations regarding student infractions, including bullying behavior, improper academic use of technology, academic dishonesty, use of drugs and/or alcohol, theft of items, etc. These processes may include searching students, cars, lockers, technological devices, as well as viewing security footage; -
Follows through with students who are in non-compliance and establishes behavior modification procedures when necessary; -
Schedules students to attend after school detention (JUG) and Saturday detention; -
Collaborates with the Director of School Culture to lead the implementation of restorative justice practices; -
Maintains disciplinary records; and -
Consults with the counseling team regularly to review and address student behavior.
School Safety & Security -
Collaborates with facilities department to improve campus-wide safety; -
Coordinates and conducts evacuation, tornado, lock-down and other safety drills; - Oversees the student parking process from application to distribution of permits;
- Maintains a safe environment in the school building by ensuring all entrances are
secured, all student-focused areas are proctored, and all areas of the building are locked; -
Provides security for all athletic and student events; -
Coordinates training faculty and staff in proctoring, attendance taking, and safety procedures; and -
Oversees the printing and distribution of student identification cards.
Administrative Responsibilities -
Supervises, evaluates, and hires the Assistant Deans, School Nurse(s), Attendance Officers, Security Aides, and Administrative Assistant; -
Assists with annual review of the Crisis Management Plan and Student Handbook; -
Directs Assistant Deans of Students to develop and manage training programs for security aides; -
Supports the Assistant Principals and the Principal in their roles; and -
Serves on the Principal’s Leadership Team, Crisis Management Team, CURA, School Leadership Council and other ad hoc committees as requested.
