Vermont Academy is nestled on four hundred fifty acres at the foothills of the Green Mountains in Saxtons River, Vermont, and has provided a supportive community and close personal attention to its students for 146 Years. Vermont Academy seeks a full-time Spanish teacher who is passionate about teaching the Spanish language and cultures related to all Spanish-speaking communities. Teaching with an immersion-style approach, the teachers in the department aim for appropriate levels of proficiency each year using multiple and varied media and activities to engage students in the process of learning another language. The department also embraces the philosophy of backward design which asks teachers to set year-end goals for each level and use excellent planning and organization to help students attain these goals. Finally, the World Language department is fully committed to teaching another language and culture so that students can become more culturally competent and more aware of issues related to social justice. The successful candidate will be an accomplished, innovative teacher with excellent interpersonal skills, organizational ability, and an enthusiasm for working with adolescents. We seek a teacher to teach four to five academic sections, be a part of the residential life program, lead or coach an afterschool program, and be an academic advisor. Teaching experience at the secondary level is preferred. Technical facility with Google Workspace, Zoom, and other software commonly used in schools is expected. - Live in, or serve as an affiliate to one of the Academy’s dormitories
- Monthly weekend duty
- Coach or supervise an activity during two seasons
- Serve as an academic advisor
- Acquire, with the school’s help, a Type II van license
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
