Westtown School is searching for an Assistant Teacher for 5th grade for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. Applications are invited from qualified candidates with experience and interest in working with upper elementary age students. Primary responsibilities: - Supporting young students’ social-emotional and identity development
- Teaching developmentally appropriate academics in the areas of literacy, math, and thematic studies with a culturally responsive and inclusive lens
- Implementing curriculum for remote/distance learning and in-person classrooms
- Collaboration with classroom and special area faculty
- Divisional community duties (e.g. arrival, recess, dismissal)
Qualifications: - BA or BS degree in Education or related field; new educators are encouraged to apply
- Demonstrated passion and joy for working with Lower School students
- Commitment to teaching with a lens toward child development, social-emotional learning, differentiated instruction, and inquiry- and project-based teaching
- Experience and proficiency using technology to support instruction and essential job responsibilities
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- A deep commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community, for children and adults, based on cultural competence, commitment to social justice, and respect for all voices
- Strong affinity for the mission of Westtown School and an educational philosophy consistent with the school’s Quaker values
