THE POSITION Hawken School is seeking an individual to join a collaborative team of teachers and teacher-leaders to help deepen our commitment to building a more progressive and differentiated teaching and learning culture. This position is instrumental in providing support to the ongoing work of the Lyndhurst campus faculty, staff and administration. We have adopted several new curricula in the last few years in which we want to support teachers’ growth. There is great opportunity for this position to grow and change in the coming years. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES - Providing direct instruction to students as needed or requested
- Consulting with teachers and administrators to design, align, and implement innovative approaches to instruction in order to support student-centered, forward-focused, and engaging learning experiences
- Collaborating with both teachers and students to develop an informed and organized approach to differentiated instruction
- Support the administrative team in identifying, designing and/or implementing strong and effective professional development opportunities in the areas of learning differences
- Partner with grade level and administrative teams to provide teaching and learning support
- Partnering, with the lens of learning support, around research and implementation efforts related to mastery-based assessment, project-based learning, literacy and progressive pedagogy
- Developing a curated collection of resources and materials that promote Hawken’s unique and evolving approach to education
- Supporting the documentation and sharing of student progress benchmarks

QUALIFICATIONS Hawken School seeks an individual with certification as a learning/enrichment specialist or equivalent degree/specialization. A Master’s degree and at least three years teaching experience is preferred. - Demonstrated competence and leadership in curriculum development, instruction and pedagogy
- Exceptional understanding of the developmental needs of middle school learners
- A joyful enthusiasm for middle school learners
- Flexibility, energy, creativity, high expectations and a sense of humor
- Facility with dynamic educational technologies
- A willingness and eagerness to assist in the life of the School
- Demonstrated expertise in working on teams that include colleagues, parents and outside professionals in order to support students
- Ability to identify challenges and draw from a toolbox of varied strategies
- Familiarity with diverse ways of engaging students over a range of learning styles enhanced by a desire to try new approaches
- Excellent listening skills and the ability to apply them in a complicated and demanding environment
- Respect for confidentiality in dealing with students who may have a diagnosis
