Position Classification: Faculty, full-time salaried exempt Hours: 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with additional hours as needed to fulfill teaching and pastoral responsibilities Reports to: Head of Middle School, with additional reporting responsibility to the Upper School Chaplain. Position Summary: St. Christopher’s School, the largest all-boys school in Virginia and one of the largest and oldest boys’ schools in the Mid-Atlantic region, seeks a Chaplain for our Middle School for the 2021-2022 school year. St. Christopher’s desires candidates who can serve as a spiritual and moral guide for our Middle School community. Serving approximately 960 boys in Grades JK-12 in Richmond, Virginia, St. Christopher’s School is committed to cultivating a school community that is diverse, inclusive, and welcoming and prides itself on bringing out the best in every boy. The ideal candidate will have proven success teaching and developing meaningful learning experiences for boys. The Middle School Chaplain will work closely and collaboratively with our Lower School and Upper School Chaplains, classroom teachers, as well as faculty and staff across all divisions and departments. Principal Responsibilities: - Design Chapel services in keeping with the Episcopal tradition and specifically geared toward boys in Grades 6-8, two-three days per week, through liturgy and homilies as well as by organizing “guest” homilists for varied perspectives and voices--faculty, staff, alumni, and community members
- Actively respond to the pastoral needs of all Middle School constituents, including students, families, faculty, and staff
- Teach 7th and 8th grade classes; each class is 40 minutes long: Old Testament (7th grade) and New Testament (8th grade), six weeks each section
- Serve on the Middle School Student Life team along with MS Director of Student Life, MS Counselor, MS Student Conduct Director, and MS Director of Resource to help ensure the health and wellbeing of every Middle School boy
- Lead and collaborate in the development of meaningful community service experiences, in coordination with the Lower and Upper School community service programs, for Middle School students and faculty, working in concert with the Middle School Director of Student Life
- Organize and lead Middle School Missionary Society, overseeing student service learning projects, division-wide service projects, and various fund raising activities
