Responsibilities include: - Elevate student voice and partner with student leadership in all student activities i.e., clubs, affinity groups, assemblies, Prom, Sports Extravaganza, talent shows, spirit week, dog day, Colors Wars, forum days and more.
- Work with grade advisors, the dean of teaching and learning and the head of Upper School on evaluating, assessing and updating student support structures and systems.
- Oversee weekly counseling team meeting (attended by learning specialists, counselors,
- nurse, the dean of teaching and learning and the head of Upper School).
- Partner and strategize with faculty to support the emotional well-being of students.
- Oversee all student disciplinary issues.
- Work with Upper School grade advisors, counselors and learning specialists to help students with social-emotional difficulties and devise strategies for advocacy and success.
- Attend all deans meetings, faculty meetings and student community events.
- Manage Student Orientations and grade-level retreats.
- Attend parent coffees and student events as needed.
- Contribute to the Upper School admission process.
- Serve on divisional and K-12 committees as needed.
- Opportunities and Challenges:
- Assist in fulfilling the K-12 strategic plan goal of enhancing student well-being, implementing strategy to prepare students to know themselves fully and improving student wellness and agency.
- Work with the head of Upper School to design and implement new support structures and systems that better connect all students to faculty.
- Work with the head of Upper School to create a feedback system for students to help faculty know and grow.
Required Experience, Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - B.A. required, master’s preferred
- Minimum 5+ years teaching experience and demonstrated growth and advancement in responsibilities.
- Professional experience in student services, discipline and support.
- Strong cultural competency skills and track record of successfully working with families from diverse backgrounds.
- Exemplary skills in team building and complex project management
- Experience with innovative and integrated models of support for high school students.
- Proficiency in word processing, MS Office, Google Docs and Blackbaud learning management system.
- A friendly, gracious, professional manner and outlook.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Impeccable ethics and a demonstrated commitment to confidentiality.
- Fluency in Spanish or a language other than English is preferred.
