Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School seeks a dynamic, growth-oriented, and enthusiastic educator for the role of Dean of Students. The Dean of Students is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of adolescents and is passionate about supporting the physical and social-emotional wellbeing of our day and boarding population. This individual prioritizes and advances diversity, equity and inclusion and collaborates with adult and student leaders to ensure school culture and programming meets the needs of our vibrant student body. The Dean of Students upholds consistency and coordination of student programs, fosters community connection, promotes student growth and development, and celebrates diversity within the school community. This position oversees and implements the school’s disciplinary process with a focus on restorative practices and communicates major discipline decisions to students, parents and faculty involved. Commitment to treating students as individuals within the context of a broader community is a critical component of all positions at Cranbrook. In addition, the Dean of Students manages the Conduct Review Board, including the coordination, selection and training of members. Reporting directly to the Head of Upper School and serving on the Upper School Leadership Team, this individual works closely with the Dean of Residential and Student Life, a new position for 2021-2022, to enrich the quality of student life. Leadership experience in a boarding community is preferred, as this is a residential position. Cranbrook is a PK-12 school with a vibrant boarding component in grades 9-12, allowing the school to provide teachers and administrators with the opportunity to live and work on our architecturally famous 319-acre campus. Adults engage students and support their development as members of a shared community. Eagerness to live among students and to engage them in the evenings and on the weekends as a part of an exciting residential program is an important component of this position.
