REQUIREMENTS:

• Maintain current certification and continuing education requirements as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification.
• Maintain current certification in CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care.
• 5 years of secondary school/professional/collegiate experience as a full-time trainer.

• Current NATABOC CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
• Ability to engage in physically demanding, manual tasks.
• Experience interacting and communicating effectively with coaches and medical personnel.
• Submit to a background check, as deemed appropriate by school administration

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The athletic trainer will practice said profession within the parameters set forth by The National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and will follow both the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics as set forth by the NATA.  These duties are based on the needs of the school and its athletic department.  The Athletic Director, as necessary, shall modify duties.  The athletic trainer will be present at designated athletic contests, home and away and attend post-season and home-hosted contests as directed by the Athletic Director.

• Provide 1st aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning for Harvard-Westlake student-athletes.
• The athletic trainer may also be responsible for making appropriate physician referral.
• Maintain a line of communication with coaches regarding athletic health care and recommend treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries as well as practice and game dispositions.
• File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents.
• Maintain a daily treatment log.
• Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment, including special taping, pads or braces.
• Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environment risks.
• Lead a team of athletic trainers and be responsible for scheduling, ordering of supplies, and managing a budget.
• Provide effective written and oral communication between student-athletes, coaches, sports performance staff, administrators, as well as, the multi-disciplinary medical team regarding the status and progress of student-athletes.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month position.  The athletic trainer will work in accordance with a weekly schedule.  Weekly schedules will vary according to the athletic season.  Some holidays and weekends will be required.

EVALUATION: Will be evaluated annually by the Head of Athletics and or Athletic Director. 

SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience.
