Harvard-Westlake, a coed, independent school in Los Angeles serving nearly 1600 students in grades 7-12, seeks to hire a well-qualified full-time teacher in the English department at the Upper School (grades 10-12). The position will begin this August, and the teaching load will comprise four sections and two course preparations. Which grade levels and courses have yet to be determined. English teachers frame and lead textual inquiries; guide students in composing and revising argumentative essays; evaluate students in all facets of their work; and regularly collaborate with colleagues to evolve curriculum and determine best practices. We value your expanding knowledge of great literature old and new, as well as your growing skill-base in helping students discover and deepen their interpretive ideas in spoken and written word. Experience with remote teaching via Zoom will be a boon. Harvard-Westlake actively strives to be a diverse and inclusive community in its educational, admission, and employment practices. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, age, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, disability, or any other characteristic. We seek candidates who demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members; have an ability to work flexibly, independently, and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with individuals from a diverse set of backgrounds; and have a capacity to serve as a model of openness, generosity, and acceptance. |
