Assistant Head of Lower School Position Summary Randolph School seeks a dynamic, student-centered Assistant Head of Lower School to begin August 2021. Reporting directly to the Head of Lower School, the ideal candidate will be an experienced lower school educator with a record of success in the classroom. The Assistant Head of Lower School works in full partnership with the Head of Lower School to oversee the Lower School program and will be involved in all aspects of supervision of the Lower School including recruitment and retention of faculty, daily operations of the school, professional development for faculty, and curriculum development. S/he will have preferably served in a faculty leadership role and have experience with Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and student support in an educational setting. The Assistant Head of Lower School meets regularly with individual students and/or classroom teachers to answer academic questions, discuss concerns or develop strategies for academic improvement as well as supporting the individualized learning needs of all students. Additionally, the Assistant Head of Lower School is responsible for: - Partnering with the Head of Lower School to oversee curricular and extracurricular programs
- Collaborating with the Head of Lower School and teachers to recruit, hire, support, evaluate, and retain Lower School faculty
- Partnering with administration, faculty, staff, and families to provide a sense of community and common purpose
- Assisting the Lower School Head to support teachers in creating and maintaining student-centric, well organized, and aesthetically pleasing learning environments
- Assisting in planning Faculty Professional Learning Days and other in-service opportunities
- Being a presence at major school functions and events
- Leading the Lower School in the absence of the Head of Lower School
- Assisting in creating, editing, and distributing communications including newsletters, handbooks, summer study and supply lists
- Assisting in reading and editing external communications including progress reports, newsletters, teacher-parent emails, and other communications
- Working with the Head of Lower School and School Counselor to create/maintain a positive school environment
- Developing and maintaining faculty and parent digital information platforms
- Collaborating with the Head of Lower School to analyze standardized test data and make appropriate recommendations for curriculum changes and revisions
- Staying current with instructional coaching practices, educational technology, curriculum development, national learning standards, multicultural education, and current best practices
- Developing the Lower School schedule and calendar of events
Qualification Requirements - Master’s Degree in education or school administration preferred
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational and presentation skills
- 5+ years’ experience as a classroom educator, ideally in an independent school environment
- Strategic thinker and empathetic problem solver
