Job Title: Head Coach Varsity Girls Volleyball Position: Fall Season Coach Division: Upper School Athletics Reports to: Dean of Athletics and Athletics Operations Director Job Summary: King School is looking for qualified applicants with high school, college or club volleyball coaching and playing experience for the Varsity Head Coach position of the highly competitive Girls Volleyball Team. Highly motivated candidates possessing strong leadership and communication skills are encouraged to apply. The Head Coach will have responsibility for all aspects of the program, including mentorship and oversight of the assistant and JV coaches, and be the face of King Girls Volleyball, providing leadership in the ongoing development, growth, and improvement of the program from grades 6-12. The Head Coach will execute effective teaching and coaching techniques to help the athletes optimize their athletic skill, acumen and attitude, and be expected to build upon the success of the program. King Girls Volleyball has captured five straight, and seven out of nine, Class B and Class C New England Prep School Athletic Council championships. The Head Coach will also constructively collaborate with students and adults in a positive spirit; display and promote sportsmanship and citizenship; and demonstrate a commitment to King’s Virtues and Diversity Policy. The Head Coach will be expected to uphold and promote the mission and philosophy of the King School and the Athletics Department, while following the rules set forth by the Fairchester Athletic Association and the NEPSAC. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Serve as an inspirational leader and positive role model. Thoughtfully engage in best practices in motivating student athletes in the context of King’s Mission and Virtues.
- Draw from a strong volleyball working knowledge to plan and facilitate daily, meaningful practices, and execute effective teaching/coaching techniques during training sessions and matches.
- Oversee the direction of the King Girls Volleyball Program for the Varsity, JV and Middle School teams in collaboration with the Dean and Director of Athletics, mentoring assistant, JV and Middle School coaches.
- Be familiar with student profiles and the needs of each student-athlete, and have knowledge of King’s student support systems, in order to support and develop the potential of each athlete and the full team.
- Abide by King’s policies and procedures and adhere to FAA and NEPSAC Code of Ethics. Enforce student conduct rules.
- Promote King Girls Volleyball in the community. Work with the Dean of Athletics and Admissions Office, providing outreach to qualified prospective student-athletes. Also supporting student efforts to pursue additional athletic opportunities.
- Work with the College Counseling Office, supporting students who are recruited or interested in playing at the next level.
- Attend all meetings scheduled by the Dean of Athletics, including the opening All-Coaches Meeting in late-August and professional development programming throughout the year, league meetings, parent meetings and seasonal sports meetings.
- Coordinate out-of-season and summer activities and training for student-athletes in program and recommend/develop enrichment opportunities for all grades.
- Pursue professional growth opportunities and set course of action for development and training of all coaches in the King Girls Volleyball program (grades 6-12).
- Perform duties deemed necessary by the Dean of Athletics and the King Administration.
Requirements: - Experience playing or coaching volleyball at the high school, collegiate or club levels. Head coaching experience and coaching certification preferred.
- Experience successfully instructing high school-aged students.
- Excellent interpersonal and motivational skills.
- Strong ability to teach students with a wide range of athletic and volleyball skills and experience levels.
- Demonstrated cross-cultural competence--ability to effectively teach, learn, and engage in a multicultural environment with a diverse student body--in pedagogical practice and multicultural curriculum content.
- Demonstrated capacity in culturally responsive professional practices, excellent communication skills, and ability to constructively collaborate with colleagues.
- Demonstrated capacity to thrive in our diverse community, including but not limited to diversity in race, ethnicity, gender identity, socio-economic status, ability/disability, belief, sexual orientation, and national origin according to our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles.
- Must have a demonstrated alignment with King’s Mission and Virtues.
- Maintain both First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Obtain/maintain Connecticut Driver’s License with a Public Passenger Endorsement A or a New York Driver’s License with Endorsement E required for driving teams to and from games
