French Language Teacher (Lower and Middle School) Reports to: Ms. Perrin Jones and Mrs. Brigette Thomas, Directors of Middle and Lower School Full-time | 10-month position | Exempt St. George’s Episcopal School is a coeducational, independent school serving approximately 370 students from age one through eighth grade and employing approximately 100 faculty and staff. Position Summary St. George’s is seeking an experienced French language teacher to work with students in the Lower School and Middle School during the 2021-2022 academic year. St. George’s has small class sizes and emphasizes differentiation for our students’ strengths and challenges. We recognize that every child is a unique learner. He/She will report directly to the Division Heads, but will also receive feedback and assignments from the World Language Department Chair. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Teach French language classes to students in 4th through 8th grade
- Develop French curricula that is highly engaging and challenging and focuses on students’ needs
- Complete progress reports twice a year and report cards twice a year for students
- Provide a variety of ongoing assessments
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences; effectively communicate students’ progress and needs with parents and teaching team
- Manage time to meet deadlines and adhere to a daily schedule, and structure classes to maximize opportunities for student learning
- Foster student learning by including students in their educational plans
- Lead students to use their own critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Guide classroom behavior through respect and a positive approach
- Collaborate with other teachers to regularly support students’ educational needs
- Consult with outside professionals as needed to support students’ educational progress
- Mentor students in small-group Middle School advisory program
- Help plan and chaperone field trip experiences for students
- Chaperone an overnight field trip
- Be an active member in the life of the St. George’s community
Qualification Requirements - Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education and/or French Language
- Fluent in the French language: reading, writing and speaking
- At least two years of experience working with children
- Knowledge of French curricula and assessments; ability to differentiate for advanced and struggling learners
- Ability to work well in a team and collaborate
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills which prove effective in communicating with parents and establishing a team approach with the child’s family
- A desire to respond to and initiate the solving of problems through clear and open conversation
- A growth mindset; open to feedback and able to take risks
- Highly interested in pursuing professional development opportunities; dedicated to lifelong learning and possessing a growth mindset
- Proficiency with Google Suite products and technology-based educational tools
- A sense of integrity, ethics and ability to carry out responsibilities in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures
