About The Craig School: Established in 1980 and located in Mountain Lakes and Montville, New Jersey, The Craig School is an independent 2-12 co-ed school whose mission is to serve students with language-based learning disabilities. The Craig School provides students with a strategy-based, comprehensive, and challenging school experience that acknowledges their learning disabilities, and builds on their aptitudes, and strengthens their self-awareness and self-esteem. Job Summary: The SLP provides services to support the instructional program through their unique contribution which complements and augments those made by other professionals who also have unique perspectives and skills. Working collegially with lower and middle school faculty who are primarily responsible for curriculum and instruction is essential. The SLP also works closely with reading specialists, Orton Gillingham faculty, special education teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social clinicians, in addition to others. Working with school administrators in designing and implementing programs is crucial. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to therapy, evaluations, IEP development, and teacher consultation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Providing high-quality direct speech-language therapy services to students according to students’ IEPs/ISPs plans.
- Conducting assessments, analyzing results, and writing reports to determine strengths and concerns in areas of speech, voice, fluency, pragmatics, language, and oral motor skills.
- Developing treatment plans (IEPs/ISP plans) that are strength-based as well as child and family-centered for overall educational improvement.
- Ensuring evaluations, treatment plans, and service delivery are aligned with school, state, and federal guidelines.
- Assisting and guiding teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language delays/disorders.
- Consulting with teaching teams to develop and implement curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies such as visual supports, oral motor exercises, language strips, topics of conversation, and data collection.
- Ensuring students’ skills are generalized across settings by collaborating with teaching teams and related service providers.
- Completing treatment notes and progress reports in a timely manner and according to school policy.
- Managing a detailed log of services provided and services missed due to student or therapist absences.
- Documenting all aspects of work with students according to school and state guidelines. Communicating and coordinating with Director of Lower and Middle School to ensure school mission, philosophy, and procedures are embraced.
- Designing and conducting professional development series starting at staff orientation and ending at the end of the school year if needed.
- Designing and conducting training for parents and families if needed.
- Maintaining an inventory of materials, assessments, and supplies.
- Maintaining appropriate, confidential, records and provide timely reports.
- Keeping abreast of best practices in speech and language therapy and language development.
- Engaging parents and families in their student's learning and acting as an ambassador for the school in the community.
- Contributing productively to the school as a whole.
- Attending and participating in school events outside of regular school hours.
- Other duties as assigned by the head of school.
The appointment will begin July 1, 2021, and is a full-time, 11-month position with benefits. |
