Middle and Upper School STEAM Teacher Friends Select School is seeking a creative and innovative teacher to implement our STEAM program in grades 5-12. The ideal candidate should have experience working with middle and upper school students on coding, building, and art-making, and have the vision to maintain and further develop our STEAM program and oversee the STEAM lab room. In addition to teaching computer science, engineering, and other elective courses of interest, the successful candidate will advise various clubs and partner with our middle school and upper school teachers to help implement design thinking and project-based learning into their classes when needed. Overall, we are looking for a teacher with strong interpersonal skills who can bring projects and new initiatives to fruition and who can inspire our young students in STEAM With our school’s STEAM program spanning from PreK through 12, we also value a candidate willing to work closely and collaboratively with our Lower School STEAM Librarian. The ideal candidate will have most of the following: - Master's degree preferred and/or three+ years experience teaching in schools.
- Familiarity with Quaker education and independent schools.
- A strongly collaborative mindset and approach.
- A commitment to making STEAM accessible and equitable for female students and students of color
- Knowledge and experience using art-based and open-ended perspectives in
- problem solving.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge and/or experience of maker spaces and design thinking.
- A passion for computer science and knowledge of programming languages.
- Experience (and love for) working with students on coding, building, robotics, and art-making.
- Solid understanding of math and computational thinking.
- An ability to articulate the importance of STEAM in the 21st century.
