The Position: Reporting to the Director of the Upper School and the Director of College Counseling, the Meadows School is seeking a dynamic, collaborative professional to serve as College Counselor. The College Counselor is responsible for articulating the value of a Meadows education, and contributing to the strength and success of the College Counseling program by helping to manage and plan efforts related to post-secondary preparations, applications, college admissions, and enrollment, and preparing students to achieve academic excellence and character development through the pursuit of higher learning. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- 3-5 years of experience in college counseling and/or college admissions preferred.
- Knowledge of a wide range of universities, including Ivy League, NESCACs, State University systems, and overseas universities.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends for special programming.
- Exceptional public speaking, writing, organization, listening and communication skills.
- An enthusiastic, dedicated, collaborative, knowledgeable and compassionate professional who is inspired to help teenagers achieve their current and future post-secondary dreams.
- Counsel students and families using differentiated strategies appropriate to the student and their circumstances and abilities.

- Develop and maintain rapport and effective relationships with colleagues, adolescents and adults in carrying out duties and responsibilities by using courtesy, diplomacy, collaboration, cooperation, and professional conduct.

- Maintain the highest ethical standards, legal responsibility, and confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Google suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and familiarity with using a student database for college admissions such as Naviance, Veracross, Scoir, Cialfo, etc.
Responsibilities - Meeting individually with students and parents to set goals, answer questions, advise regarding course selections for future academic years, discuss the admission and financial aid process, help develop their final college list and/or post-secondary plans, assist with application materials and ensure that each student is admitted to a 4-year college or university.
- Writing official school recommendation letters for students for college applications, summer programs, scholarships, etc.
- Organizing, communicating and overseeing the coordination of AP exams (i.e. AP Coordinator)
- Coordinating the PSAT and facilitate proctoring of ACT and SAT tests (i.e. PSAT Coordinator)
- Developing and co-hosting day/evening college presentations on a variety of topics.
- Executing advisory lessons on a range of college counseling topics.
- Interacting and network building with college admissions representatives. Meeting with college admissions representatives who visit our campus (virtually or in person). Serve as a liaison with college admissions offices throughout the year.
- Understanding and utilizing Naviance or other admission tracking tools to enhance services, report results and outcomes, and manage data and information.
- Pursue professional development to increase knowledge of private and public university and college admissions, financial aid, and standardized testing (conferences, college visits, etc.).
- Collaborating across departments, specifically Counseling & Wellness, Admissions, Advancement, Arts, and Athletics to achieve post-secondary goals.
- Preparing and editing written and online communication with students, parents and staff.
- Chaperoning the Spring College Tour alongside teachers and half the junior class.
