With a brand new state-of-the art campus under construction in the Pinewood neighborhood of Miami, JLA will begin accepting student applications for grades 6, 7, 9 and 10 in the Fall of 2022 for the academic year 2023-2024.

JLA seeks an outstanding faculty of all faiths who believe in and actively support the school’s mission to educate Jewish students at the highest academic levels while connecting them deeply to their heritage and faith.

The Humanities Department Chair is a member of the educational leadership team responsible for all aspects of JLA’s Humanities Program in grades 6 through 12. This position, therefore, will directly supervise faculty in English, Social Studies, Art, and Music. It is expected that the Humanities Department Chair will teach four classes in addition to his or her administrative responsibilities. The Humanities Department Chair will report directly to the Associate Head of School for Upper School.  

Full-time employment for the Humanities Department Chair begins July, 2022 with a planning year prior to the school’s opening.  

During the planning year the Humanities Department Chair will oversee the development of the school’s Humanities curriculum and work directly with the Associate Heads of the Middle and Upper Schools.

The Humanities Department Chair must have a minimum of ten years of teaching experience at the high school level, and/or a combination of teaching and administrative experience. A graduate degree is required, as well as a strong foundation in classroom pedagogy and curriculum development. Experience working with gifted and talented students is an asset.

• A deep understanding of project and inquiry based learning.   
• Mastery of Google Workspace for Education and overall comfort with technology.

Compensation for the Humanities Department Chair is $100,000.
