Essential Functions
> Creates a warm, welcoming environment in the Learning Lab for students, parents,
faculty, and staff
> Meets weekly with the Student Services Counselors
> Accepts feedback from the Director of Student Services and the Head of Lower School
> Maintains confidentiality and student integrity
> Provides direct service to students in need of support, as determined through educational testing, recommendation of a licensed professional, and/or referral from a teacher or Student Services; understands psycho-educational evaluations and uses them to inform instructional goals
> Works closely and collaboratively with other Student Services personnel, faculty, and
outside professionals (ex. psychologists, speech-language pathologists, etc.) in order to
identify and support students with learning differences/needs
> Interprets and facilitates implementation of academic recommendations in
psycho-educational testing reports; maintains learning profiles for students based upon
related accommodation recommendations and develops detailed lesson objectives for
these students that align with their learning profiles and demonstrated needs; composes
reports as needed
> Acts as a resource for faculty in the development and implementation of strategies and
accommodations to compensate for learning deficits, and helps coordinate their delivery
> Communicates effectively with parents and teachers in a timely manner regarding
students relative to identification, progress monitoring, and assessment results; leads
parent meetings to discuss learning objectives and strategies
> Provides ongoing support and training to faculty in regards to such things as
differentiated instruction, universal design, and other strategic interventions
> Creates systems that aid all students in executive functioning and organizational skills
> Effectively incorporates principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and
classroom culture
> Models and reinforces the Middle School Code of Conduct and Benjamin Values
> Attends faculty meetings, grade-level meetings, parent gatherings, orientations, Back to School Nights, and other school-wide events
> Completes all work and assigned tasks in a timely, efficient, accurate, and organized
manner
> Performs other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
> Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
> Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to prioritize and work
independently and address several challenges simultaneously
> Possession of pleasant and collaborative style in the workplace including professional
attitude
> Ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment
> Well versed in technology, various software suites and office equipment related to the

Education and Experience
> Master’s degree or higher in Special Education and experience in specialized
instructional practices and in working with students with learning differences
> Minimum of 5 years teaching with classroom experience instructing students with
learning differences
> Training and certification in Orton-Gillingham or Wilson Language Program preferred
> Experience in assessment and test interpretation; knowledge of standardized and informal assessments used in the diagnosis of reading, writing, and math disorders
> Familiarity with independent school settings is an advantage
Physical and Work Requirements:
> Prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer
> Occasional movement about the office and lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
> Ability to work in excess of 8 hours a day, as well as evening and weekend hours as
necessary for events and projects
> Travel required for meetings, events, professional development
