Learning Support Coordinator (Primary School - PS/PK3 through CM2/5th Grade)

Position Summary: The Learning Support Coordinator works with teachers in their efforts to respond to a range of learning styles within classrooms and build a supportive environment for students through differentiation, accommodation, intervention, extension and remediation. The Learning Support Coordinator also acts as a liaison between teachers, parents, and outside professionals in order to best meet students’ needs. The Learning Support Coordinator works with teachers and students from both the French and International Programs.

Education and Experience
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Previous classroom experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree or equivalent in Education with emphasis on Learning Differences
- Certification in Learning Differences, Reading Specialist or similar
- Experience in reading and interpreting psychoeducational evaluation reports
- Course work or professional development in Gifted and Talented
- Minimum of 6 years full-time teaching experience in a preschool or elementary school
- Experience designing and delivering professional development and/or instructional coaching
- At least three years of experience working with learning disabilities (ADHD, dyslexia, and reading disorders) and providing reading remediation
- Experience in managing learning support programs and designing student learning plans
- Native speaker English and French and/or Spanish proficiency
- Ability to work collaboratively within the school
- International and independent school experience
Job Description: The role of the Learning Support Coordinator includes the following:
Supporting Instruction, and Student Learning:
- Collaborate with teachers to develop effective whole group practices, small group interventions, and individualized learning activities.
- Model student support through small group and one-on-one instruction within the general education classroom
- Collaborate with grade-level teams to promote an environment of critical thinking and academic rigor.
- Provide staff development on a continual basis to build capacity for individual teachers and grade level team in instructional strategies for all kinds of learners.
- Support teachers in differentiating plans for students based on their unique learning profiles so that all students (whether needing remediation or extension) are engaged and challenged.
- Provide teacher support in building organizational skills and executive function in identified students.
- Assist teachers with understanding psycho-educational evaluations and developing practical classroom applications for the recommendations made in those evaluations.
- In conjunction with teachers, develop instructional learning plans with long-term goals and specific objectives for identified students, including recommendations of in-school and outside resources.
- Assist teachers with tracking data to determine the effectiveness of interventions.
Logistical Support for Teachers, Learners and Parents:
- Observe all students displaying academic difficulties to assess their learning strengths and challenges.
- Evaluate children for phonemic awareness and reading abilities.
- Provide informal pre- and post-assessments of individual children as requested.
- Manage written reports to school and parents with assessment results and recommendations of appropriate diagnostic testing and remedial programs for school-related learning problems.
- Initiate and attend parent conferences and team meetings as needed.
- Coordinate and facilitate communication between students, family, school and other involved professionals and provide regular monthly progress reports in writing.
- Consult with teachers, parents, administration and outside professionals regarding special learning needs of students and to prescribe plans for reasonable accommodations, strategies and materials for classroom and home intervention in alignment with the RTI model.
- Maintain confidential student records and keep accurate documentation of sessions, meetings, and other communications appropriate to ethical and professional standards.
- Act as an advocate for children with learning difficulties by collecting and coordinating prior assessment data and other relevant information to provide a year-to-year follow-through with classroom teachers and parents.
Supporting School Community and Mission:
- Periodically liaise with the secondary student support team to ensure consistency of student support across the divisions.
- As needed, consult with the Admissions Director regarding student testing, acceptance and placement.
- Protect and enhance the physical and emotional welfare of the students.
- Help build a positive sense of community among staff and students.
- Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
