The Director of Student Services is responsible for supporting Germantown Friends School’s holistic development of students. This encompasses the physical, emotional, and academic well-being of children as they progress through a school that serves children at the early childhood level through high school. As such, the Director must be a licensed professional psychologist with expertise in psychoeducational testing and the use of testing to determine learning plans as well as therapeutic interventions.
The Director of Student Services should be aware of, and in alignment with, the Quaker values that guide faculty and staff interactions with children and colleagues. These values undergird policies and programs at the School and set the norms and tone for the community. As such, the Director should be a trusted professional who maintains confidentiality and interacts with all constituencies with respect.
The Director will work closely with the Director of Academic Program and Division Directors in order to ensure that Department Heads and Deans are equipped with critical skills and training to serve the needs of the student population.
Responsibilities include:
- Build and maintain the student services team in order to plan for student success through a holistic approach that considers all aspects of child development.
- Supervise the school nurses and provide them with critical information; receive and disseminate information as it relates to the health of students.
- Supervise the school counselors at each divisional level and provide them with information, strategies, and support in order to meet the overlapping emotional, social, and academic needs of students.
- Supervise learning-support staff in order to ensure the academic success of students.
- Coordinate with the Director of Academic Program to create professional development for teachers regarding pedagogical strategies as it pertains to supporting students.
- Interpret psychoeducational testing for teachers and student-services professionals in order to create learning plans.
- Provide experience and expertise to parents as they navigate the various stages of their child’s development and work in partnership with the School.
- Coordinate with the College Counseling Office on testing accommodations.
- Oversee the correct disbursement and maintenance of learning plans.
- Coordinate with the Director of Security on the Safe2Say team and on any student-safety issues at the School.
- Work directly with the Director of Financial Aid to determine Act 89 funding requirements (including Title I, II, and III funding).
- Coordinate with CORA and outside service providers.
- Clerk the Confidential Concerns Team and support that committee with education and resources.
- Attend Student Support Team meetings and assist learning specialists in performing and maintaining accurate student assessment records.
- Consult with the Admissions Team to provide critical expertise in interpretation of outside testing.
- Coordinate with the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to ensure that students services are designed and implemented with appropriate cultural sensitivity and competence.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of School.
Requirements:
- Licensed psychologist with demonstrated experience in working with school-age children.
- Experience in a school setting is preferred.
- Five to ten years of experience in counseling or other related fields.
