Charles Wright Academy (CWA), located on a beautiful, wooded 107-acre campus, serves students in preschool through 12th grade. Summary:
CWA Upper School Teachers are assigned four courses (year-long equivalent). They are expected to challenge each student to develop fully his/her/their intellectual, physical, and artistic abilities, and his/her/their potential for moral conduct and responsible citizenship with the School Mission and Portrait of a Tarrier as guiding documents. In addition, each full-time Upper School teacher is expected to lead one activity with students (e.g. coaching a sport or serving as an advisor to a major activity), as well as participate in the daily life and culture of the school.
This position is a full-time faculty appointment to teach four sections of high school History for the upcoming academic year. Courses taught in the History Department at CWA include Modern World History, Western Civilization, US History, US Government, Civics, Comparative Government, Washington State History, and Economics.
Faculty can teach any combination of the above courses and flexibility to teach more than one area is expected. Reading and writing intensive courses with grade-appropriate research projects are a key part of the curriculum.
Essential Functions:
- Provides an academic curriculum which is developmentally appropriate and effective to student learning and advancement.
- Creates engaging lessons that follow departmental standards and guidance from the Academic Leadership Team.
- Imparts and inspires enthusiasm for the subject to students.
- Encourages and models the growth of moral character.
- Continues the students’ mastery of both the content of the course and the necessary study or performance skills.
- Complete engagement during school hours to teach, supervise, or to schedule conference time with students.
- Serves as an advisor to a small group of students each year and delivers Advisory curriculum as appropriate.
- Maintains communication to be in partnership with parents/guardians and Advisors to keep them abreast of students’ performance.
- Proctors the hallways/commons and serves on lunch and door duty as assigned.
- Leads or participates in Winterim Experiential Week, overnight class retreats, and other special programs.
- Helps chaperone school dances and supports extracurricular events.
- Attends all scheduled faculty and community meetings and expected admissions and prospective family events.
- Works in partnership with the Learning Specialist, Director of Counseling and Wellness, and Director of Student Life to support students.
- Maintains an up-to-date gradebook with timely posts of assignments in the school system and in Google Classroom. Notifies students and families promptly and tactfully when students are not performing well or behind in assignments.
- Writes thorough and appropriate narrative comments for each student to accompany grades at marking periods.
Salary/Benefits:
Salary range is $55,000 - $75,000 and is dependent upon background, and breadth of experience. All Charles Wright employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the first day of work in accordance with the State’s mandate.
