Princeton International School for Mathematics and Science (PRISMS) seeks a passionate, creative, and compassionate Mandarin instructor to begin mid-August 2022. The part-time position requires teaching three sections of Mandarin Chinese.
The position calls for an experienced, well-educated teacher who is excited about sharing their subject matter with students. The part-time Mandarin teacher must be able to work independently and have the ability to write and teach a language curriculum for students who range in ability from beginner to AP-level and beyond. Additionally, candidates should be able to use instructional technologies effectively, have excellent communication and organization skills, and demonstrate an interest in sharing the richness of the Chinese culture with students and the community. Also, candidates should be eager to contribute to the community life of PRISMS.
For this position, the ideal candidate will be expected to:
- Develop students’ four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing the Chinese language
- Differentiate between students who grow up in a Chinese-speaking environment and those who have had no prior exposure to the language, and design different teaching approaches
- Create interactive activities and games to engage students in the learning process
- Foster a learning environment that is student-centered and that supports students’ intellectual, social, and emotional needs
- Use creative formative and summative assessments to evaluate student learning
- Communicate effectively and professionally with all constituent groups - faculty, administrators, students, and parents
Strong candidates for this position will have a bachelor’s degree, at least three years of teaching experience (preferably with high school students), a strong understanding of the Chinese culture, a desire to keep up with current events in the Chinese-speaking world, and excellent interpersonal skills. Ideal candidates will hold an advanced degree or teaching certificate; have experience in instructional design, curriculum development, and assessment experience; and above all, experience teaching in independent schools.
