Job Description:
Portledge School seeks to hire a full-time, dynamic Computer Science Technology teacher who is driven to create a classroom environment where student learning is a non-negotiable goal and passion is evident on a daily basis. Responsibilities include teaching Middle and Lower School courses and electives directly relating to computer science, physical computing (e.g. robotics), technology literacy, and digital citizenship, participating collegially in meetings and taking an active role in the life of the school community. This individual will also play a key role in supporting our FIRST LEGO League robotics teams. It is our vision that this teacher will explore all aspects of computer science with students, covering topics relating to programming, physical computing, web development, user design, problem-solving, computational thinking, and the social and ethical issues that come with technology in today’s digital age.

Responsibilities:
- Teaching the equivalent of two, year-long Middle School course electives relating directly to Computer Science, Physical Computing (Robotics),Technology Literacy, and Digital Citizenship
- Be the Instructor for the weekly Coding and/or Robotics Club block (once a cycle) in the Middle School division following a developed curriculum to deliver a Science, Math, Reading Comprehension, Engineering Design, and Computer Science Skills Progression
- Be the Lead Coach for one of our FIRST LEGO League Teams, which includes running after-school meetings on campus 2-3 days a week, working with Parent volunteers, as well as attending off campus events (such as FLL Qualifiers); collaborate regularly with the Upper School Robotics program and help coordinate School-wide Robotics Initiatives
- Teaching the equivalent of two Lower School Technology and Computer Science “Specials”
- Serve as a member of the Instructional Technology Competency Committee (ITCC), collaborating with the technology department regularly; support faculty usage and integration with MyPortledge
- Collaborate with peers, including the Lower School library media specialist and science department to create, incorporate, and deliver a curriculum that explores programming, physical computing, technology literacy while complementing content covered in those department areas
- Participate collegially in divisional meetings and take an active role in the life of the School community
- Report to the “Technology Education and Computer Science Chair” and collaborate with them on vertical and horizontal curriculum development and alignment as well as professional development for faculty and staff

Qualifications:
- BA Degree minimum in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Science or similar field; advanced degree preferred in relevant area(s)
- Teaching certification/ Educational Technology certification preferred
- Familiarity with coding languages and environments for Middle and Lower School students
- Experience (2+ years) participating in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) organization or similar (ex. VEX) as a coach/mentor; FIRST LEGO League preferred
- Ability to apply STEAM concepts to design and build robots using LEGO Education SPIKE PRIME or LEGO MINDSTORMS® EV3 Robot Sets, as well as other physical computing hardware
- Ability to code robots using LEGO® Education SPIKE™ App, EV3 Classroom App, Python for EV3, RobotC, or compatible software for the LEGO ecosystem
- Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS) to complement daily instruction, including posting assignments and conducting online assessments; Experience with Blackbaud LMS preferred
- Experience with Immersive Technologies a plus
- High competency in the use of Google Workspace for Education; Google Certified Educator Level 1 preferred
- Superb written and oral communication as well as organizational and time management skills
- Commitment to work with department members, and with other disciplines to create meaningful connections for students
- Committed to teaching and nurturing social emotional learning of children
- Belief in the value of all types of diversity within a school and special commitment to social justice and equity
- Anti-racism / anti-bias training preferred
