Visual Art Co-Teacher Position (Grades PreK through Fifth Grade)
Start Date: August 29, 2022
The Caedmon School seeks creative, supportive, and flexible candidates for the PreK through 5th grade Visual Art teacher position. In accordance with our Mission Statement, we seek candidates who cherish and love children. We ask you to model what is expected of our students ethically, academically, and socially; demonstrate an understanding and commitment to DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging); exhibit a passion for lifelong learning; possess the skills, knowledge, and confidence to be an enthusiastic innovator; and live with deep sensitivity and respect for others.
We seek candidates who understand the role of the teacher as a facilitator of student curiosity and inquiry and appreciate the educational philosophy of Maria Montessori and the importance of a carefully prepared learning environment.
Classroom teaching. The ideal candidate possesses an understanding of the cognitive, artistic, social, and emotional development of preschool and elementary-aged children. He or she must be versed or have an interest in educational approaches, including Montessori, that position the student as the driver of their own learning and in curricula based on student inquiry.
Professional growth. The ideal candidate is also a perpetual learner themself and models this explicitly for the students. He or she is excited to try new approaches to curriculum, pedagogy, and strategies for meeting student needs; takes a receptive stance to feedback from colleagues; engages in thoughtful risk-taking in his or her teaching; and actively digs into workshops and discussions at faculty meetings and professional development events. He or she habitually reflects on the learning and needs of each child, as well as their own teaching.
Community. The ideal candidate brings a keen enthusiasm for the work; participates wholeheartedly in the life of the faculty; and conducts himself or herself professionally and warmly. He or she communicates often and clearly with colleagues about curriculum and student progress; freely shares resources and teaching strategies; and infuses planning sessions with fresh, innovative ideas. He or she practices strong perspective-taking skills whenever he or she collaborates with colleagues and families.
He or she will have opportunities to work with families and dialogue with them about the growth of their child and about the curriculum as it unfolds. Additionally, this individual will have opportunities to participate in family conferences and write progress reports.

- Teach exciting, hands-on Art lessons for Pre-K through Grade Five students
