The Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County (Schechter Bergen) is seeking highly qualified, full-time Lower School General Studies Teachers to work in a collaborative, warm, academic environment for the 2022-23 school year. Candidate will be a role model who can help foster our students’ personal and academic growth, implement a variety of instructional strategies, and who has familiarity with the latest educational models to enhance student learning for the 21st century.
Responsibilities
- Teach as a member of a collaborative co-teaching team across two grade levels (1st/2nd or 3rd/4th)
- Collaborate effectively with a teacher team to plan, implement, and teach two grades, one in the morning, and one in the afternoon
- Teach multiple curricula in language arts, social studies, and mathematics
- Participate in the development of instructional materials to meet the needs of all learners, including students with disabilities and English Language Learners
- Provide individualized and small group instruction in order for all students to have access to the grade level curriculum
- Challenge students to become active independent learners and encourage each child's curiosity and creativity.
- Foster respect for others, a commitment to values, and tikkun olam (repairing the world)
- Engage in a cycle of assessment to instruction by planning for formative assessments that provide students with multiple options for demonstrating their learning
- Maintain accurate and consistent records of evidence of students learning
- Communicate regularly with parents through newsletters, conferences, email, and phone calls to discuss students' progress, sharing successes and working in partnership to enhance student development.
- Establish and maintain age appropriate routines and structures that promote student independence, collaboration, and a positive learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, both in and out of the classroom, as part of a learning community.
- The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s or master’s degree in elementary education or special education, at least three years of experience in the classroom, a deep understanding of effective literacy and mathematics instruction, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with Illustrative Mathematics and the Science of Reading is a plus.
