Early Childhood Associate Teacher (PreK and Kindergarten)

PDS seeks a teacher to join its early childhood program. The school values an inquiry-based, constructivist approach to instruction; responsiveness to student exploration; and the role of teacher as a guide to student learning. Teachers are expected to design engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young children. Our faculty work collaboratively and develop an integrated approach to curriculum development. Candidates should have experience working with children and strong written and interpersonal communication skills. A commitment to ongoing professional growth is essential.
The successful candidate should be dynamic, energetic, and creative. This individual will teach in a mixed age classroom and will work collaboratively with other team members for planning, assessment, and reporting.
Responsibilities include:
- Work closely with the lead teacher to plan and teach core subjects
- Help to assess students’ progress and maintain records; assist in the writing of reports and updating of class newsletter; attend and plan for family conferences
- Participate in weekly meetings and professional development opportunities
- Fulfill community duties
- Tailor instruction to meet students’ individual needs, based on classroom scope and sequence
- Collaborate closely with specialist subject teachers about student progress
- Coordinate with the school faculty, families, and outside support specialists to best support student growth
Ideal candidates should possess:
- Previous experience working with children at the early childhood and/or elementary level
- An Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A commitment to practices that foster diversity, equity, inclusivity, and social justice
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate curriculum
- An understanding of progressive pedagogical approaches
- Passion for the age group, subject matter, and the craft of teaching
- Curiosity, collaboration skills, flexibility, and a sense of humor
- Interest in professional growth and school-wide initiatives
