Summer Position
2022 Summer Program Educators/Counselors
Poughkeepsie Day School (PDS) is a progressive, coeducational, PreK–Grade 12 school. PDS distinguishes itself from other Hudson Valley independent schools by a commitment to a highly differentiated and interdisciplinary curriculum that is catered to each and every student. The school is committed to building a diverse and equitable community, based on inclusivity, accountability, and mutual respect.
We are seeking educators/counselors to lead one or more one-week summer programs in June, July, and August. PDS values an inquiry-based, constructivist approach to instruction; responsiveness to student exploration; and the role of the teacher/counselor as a guide to student learning.
Candidates are invited to lead one or more of the following weekly programs:
Young Adventures: Water Fun! Ages 4-11
(Three Weekly Offerings: June 27-July 1; July 18-22; August 1-5)
Water fun will be a week full of games with water, playing in the sprinklers, jumping in and out of small pools, and taking a run and jump on a splash and slide! Enjoying the hot summer days cooling off, and being outside is the perfect way to spend the week! Outdoor games and obstacle courses will be created for movement and fun. Indoors (or bad weather) campers will be engaged with different centers around the room, creating playdough, goop, and many other sensory objects that they can take home!
Young Adventures: Forts & Fairy Houses, For ages 4-11
(Two Weekly Offerings: July 5-8; July 25-29)
The summer forest is a magical place! During this week of camp, students will learn a variety of simple outdoor building techniques. They will use natural materials such as leaves, and branches to create a village of forts and fairy houses. Once their structures are created, the week will be spent improving their designs and participating in imaginative play.
Young Adventures: Wizardry & Witchcraft, For ages 4-11
(Offering: August 8-12)
Welcome to a week of sorcery, charms, alchemy, and spells! Make a wand to harness your powers. Cook up fun potions, design your own cape, and practice casting spells. Practice quidditch and brush up on your herbology by learning more about plants, flowers, and herbs. We work together to make magic happen. Magical games and a mystical scavenger hunt will round out this amazing week.
Responsibilities include:
- Planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate and fun curriculum
- Tailoring instruction to meet students’ individual needs, based on classroom scope and sequence
The above job description is meant to describe the general nature and level of work being performed; it is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required for the position.
Job Type: Part-time or Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
