Substitute Teacher
The Middle School at the Dalton School seeks a full time Floating Teacher for the 2022-23 school year. The Floating Teacher will provide classroom coverage in the event of a faculty absence in Grades 4-8 and will support classes as they do activities that require supervision, such as field trips to Central Park or the MET Museum. When covering for a House Advisor, the Floater is responsible for delivering curriculum (created by the House Advisor) and performing classroom duties such as taking attendance and supervising House, Lab, playstreet and lunch. If there is no classroom coverage needed on a given day, the Floating Teacher will support the MS Administrative Team with various coverage needs and projects.
The ideal candidate will have a range of experience working with students across ages and subjects, thrives in collaborative environments, and is reflective and committed to growth. We seek teachers who have strong classroom management skills, are fast learners, flexible, and able to follow predetermined lesson plans while also taking initiative to make adjustments when necessary.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Taking on all the duties of an absent teacher, including using classroom management skills to support a full classroom of children and maintain and reinforce health and safety rules
- Collaborating with the teacher upon their return to share what was accomplished during their absence
- Working cooperatively with teachers to support and foster age-appropriate activities during specials, lunch, break, and work times
- Building relationships with students so they treat each other well and stay on task
- Assisting in arrival and dismissal procedures to ensure student safety
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience managing a classroom and teaching children
- Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team, as well as develop skills in working with individual children, small groups, and the whole class
- Flexibility to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment
