Presidio Knolls School is a progressive and innovative Mandarin immersion school in the heart of San Francisco. We are seeking dynamic, passionate educators to help us grow our Middle School.
Job Description
A PKS Middle School Project Teacher will partner with the Head of the Middle School to design and implement an engaging, interdisciplinary, project-based curriculum. The ideal candidates will have a passion for and experience with middle school children; will prioritize progressive educational aims and interdisciplinary instruction; will understand how to design a program with rigor and flexibility; and, most of all, they will be excited to help co-author a new chapter in the life of an incredible school.
We are seeking a lead teacher for 8th grade who is adept in PBL teaching and 21st century assessment. This teacher will guide Grade 8 students through a project sequence that includes a project in which students design and build their own instruments, another in which they learn some Elvish and create their own language, and another that involves a trip to Taiwan to learn about indigenous cultures there. The ideal candidate loves kids, has a sense of adventure, and wants to teach more than just traditional book knowledge (though that is a part of what we do!). At PKS, kids learn by doing, and the world is our classroom.
Specific Responsibilities
- Co-author, coordinate, and implement a well-organized and focused

About Presidio Knolls School
PKS was founded on the idea that a progressive educational model can be combined with rigorous Mandarin immersion to create a vibrant, innovative school where children will thrive in a joyful environment. Since 2008, we have grown rapidly and established a unique position in the Bay Area’s independent school community. In the fall of 2022, the school will enroll approximately 400 students in preschool through eighth grade.
The progressive philosophy of Presidio Knolls School embraces kids as co-collaborators in their education. At the core of our approach is hands-on, experiential instruction and learning often takes place outside of the classroom. Our students complete three projects each year on our state-of-the-art campus, and one project each year doing field work in Hawaii or China. We prepare our students for competitive high school admission and have high expectations for them. Qualifications
- BA required, Master’s degree preferred.
