Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. The Upper School Science Teacher is responsible for teaching in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education. The desired candidate will:
- possess strong depth of knowledge in a discipline subject area, teaches an introductory or advanced physics course and another STEM elective to be determined.
- work closely with colleagues in the Science Department and throughout the Upper School.
- create and update plans for content, quality, and continuity of curriculum.
- actively collaborates with Learning Strategists, Librarians, Educational Technologists, and the counseling staff to develop strategies to support all students.
- attends all faculty and employee meetings and maintains good communication with families about student progress through regular progress reports and responses to parents’ inquiries.
Requirements and Qualifications
- The ideal candidate has experience teaching physics or physical science, and preferably an engineering, computer science, robotics or STEAM course, in independent and/or Catholic schools and possesses a degree in one of the subject areas or a related field.
- S/he has a track record of successful teaching, a capacity for working with a range of learning abilities, and experience integrating appropriate educational technologies into her/his teaching.
- S/he is familiar with a STEAM approach to curriculum, the Next Generation Science Standards for education, and Understanding by Design.
- S/he demonstrates a desire to innovate, strong writing and communication skills, a capacity for organization and follow-through, creativity, and flexibility.
Compensation includes salary commensurate with experience.
