Summary: The Principia is seeking a dynamic Upper School teacher who uses a variety of teaching methods to teach for understanding, ensuring students are effectively applying their knowledge and skills, and to class activities and assignments; mentors students as their teacher, character educator, and advisor; This person is also expected to support the School’s experiential education initiatives which include supporting school activities by chaperoning social events and trips. Full-time, school year position.
Work Performed: Essential Duties*
- Displays a strong interest and love for working with Upper School students
- Models an enthusiasm and love for math and/or science and their application
- Plans lessons that invoke student interest and ownership, incorporate real-life situations where appropriate, and demonstrates an awareness of the needs of the 21st-century learner to make the content relevant and meaningful
- Willing to work effectively in a 1:1 laptop environment, incorporating the use of technology as tools to enhance and redefine learning
- Effectively integrates 21st-century skills and STEM best practices into the classroom helping students develop strong critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, research, and communication skills
- Able to differentiate process, product, and content with a wide range of students, helping them feel successful and to understand their unlimited potential
- Willing to teach various courses with an understanding of how each course fits into the entire departmental scope and sequence
- Pursues professional development and looks to apply best educational practices in the classroom; becomes part of a professional learning community where teachers are continually improving teaching and learning
- Collaborates as a member of the Math Department and Science Department to support curricular and instructional goals, including weekly meetings
- Collaborates and communicates effectively with colleagues, coaches, parents, residential life staff, and administrators
- Handles discipline situations in an effective manner that supports character growth
- Serves as an advisor to a group of 5-8 Upper School students

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Math or Physics required; Master’s degree preferred (in Education, Math, Physics or related STEM field)
- Teaching certification preferred (required within two years of hire)
- Relevant teaching experience with Upper School students
