Georgetown Day School, an independent, co-ed day school in Washington, DC, seeks an appropriately qualified and experienced Lower Middle School Librarian Teacher to join our faculty for the 2022-2023 school year. Primary Job Responsibilities
- working closely with the head librarian to nurture an inviting, inclusive environment that supports students to become eager readers, curious and critical information seekers, joyful lovers of learning.
- Teach multiple sections of regularly scheduled PK-2nd grade library classes.
- Support regularly scheduled 3rd-6th grade library classes.
- Help students, PK-8th grade, discover the wonders of reading.
- Maintain (i.e., catologue, shelve, process) and help build a culturally inclusive, individually responsive library collection.
- Create a safe, collaborative learning environment that aligns with the school’s equity-driven mission.
- Assist students in finding and checking out books of interest and using online databases.
- Collaborate with colleagues, serving as a strong resource support for teachers, students, learning specialists, counselors to design and implement high-quality, engaging learning experiences.
- Plan library events, author visits, book clubs, and GDS’s own Hopper Awards.
- Respond positively and restoratively to student needs.
- Commit to ongoing professional learning.
- Engage our parent community through consistent and clear communication about library programming, events, and resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited school.
- Previous experience in an academic setting, preference given for those with 5+ years in independent schools or similar environments.
- Proficiency with contemporary and evolving technical tools, including but not limited to:
- Destiny cataloging systems, ProQuest and other databases, Noodletools, digital hardware (iPads, Chromebooks, Smartboards), and applications such as Google Classroom, and See-Saw.
- Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of YA and Children’s Literature
- Flexibility, patience, amiability, and an appreciation for the magic of childhood and early adolescence.
