Dean of Experiential Programs
The Director of Outdoor Education is charged with providing dynamic and visionary leadership and direction for outdoor programming and activities at Mercersburg Academy, ensuring that our efforts in the Mercersburg Outdoor Education (MOE) program are correlated to the mission, vision, and core values of the school. The director is responsible for fulfilling the founding vision of MOE as a venue for teaching a variety of outdoor skills; and to provide challenging experiences and collaborative opportunities that will contribute to independent learning and the development of self-discipline, leadership ability, individual confidence, relationship building talents, and spiritual awareness.
The Director of MOE is a member of the Experiential Programs team and works collaboratively with other school areas and offices that include Student Life, Academics, Admission, Advancement and Alumni Relations, College Counseling, and Summer and External Programs, along with external constituencies that encompass parents, alumni, and the general community.

Environment: Work is often performed in outdoor settings, including wilderness environments, and can include extreme cold and extreme heat, varying atmospheric conditions, noise and vibrations. Some activities may include hazards such as working in high places. Work will also be performed in an indoor/office environment.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, using repetitive motions; may frequently lift up 20 lbs. or up to 10 pounds constantly and occasionally up to 50 lbs. and to hike with a 50 lb. backpack; to travel in all modes of transportation; sufficient manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to grasp, finger, and feel.

Vision: Required to have visual acuity, with or without correction, to be able to see close activities such as viewing a computer terminal, distance and focus to operate motor vehicles.

Auditory: Must be able to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Must be able to talk and hear by telephone and in person.
Minimum Qualifications
- A degree in special education, educational psychology, or related discipline is preferred.
- Experience in reviewing neuropsychological evaluations and developing accommodation plans.
- Experience working in a co-ed boarding school environment is preferable.
- Experience working individually with high school students and collaborating with teachers on differentiation strategies
- Willingness and ability to work within a diversity, equity, and inclusion framework to meet the needs of students and the community.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively with coworkers and other school community members.
