Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
The Assistant Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) will be part of a team that works towards creating a welcoming environment that fosters Mercersburg’s culture of inclusion through educational programs for the Academy’s community. The assistant director’s area of focus will be on planning and implementing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion education primarily for Mercersburg Academy’s (MA) diverse students and adults. Reporting to the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the assistant director will provide support for ongoing DEI efforts at the Academy. In addition to the DEI work, the assistant director will be expected to participate in other areas of the school which may include residential and advising in the dorms, co-curricular (coaching, outdoor education or the arts) or teaching.
Responsibilities and Duties:

Work closely with the director to develop, implement, and evaluate DEI programs offered by ODEI.

Lead student facing DEI programs in partnership with student groups, organizations, and other departments on campus.

Co-Facilitate educational programs on DEI, e.g., implicit bias, microaggressions, identity, or other topics as assigned and discussed

Manage office monthly DEI communication and updates to the Mercersburg community.

Build and maintain relationships with Academy partners and participate on MA committees and task forces as needed.

Participate in strategic planning and goal/objective setting with the director.

Assist in the development of improved web resources, including social media outreach.

Assist in the preparation and maintenance of programming budget.

Staff the Academy’s diversity committee by scheduling meetings, recording minutes, and following up on tasks.

Other duties may be assigned, including general administrative / support work as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.

Group facilitation experience required, preferably in an academic campus setting.

Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with a broad range of Academy partners.

Ability to work evenings and weekends when required.

Environment: Work is performed mostly in an indoor/office environment.

Vision: Required to have visual acuity, with or without correction, to be able to see close activities such as viewing a computer terminal, distance and focus to operate motor vehicles.

Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred

Minimum 3 years’ work experience including a minimum of one year working with students and diverse stakeholders in an academic environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and G-Suite preferred.
