Key School is seeking a full-time Spanish teacher for it's Lower School.

This individual will be responsible for developing, implementing, assessing, and modifying, as necessary, a dynamic Spanish language program for students in grades 1-4 that aligns with the School's mission, vision, and values.

The ideal candidate will:

• Work collaboratively with the Lower School faculty in striving to achieve an excellent program by actively participating in grade level and divisional meetings and events
• Join the all-school faculty, staff and administration in providing an outstanding educational community through daily interactions, departmental meetings and all school meetings and activities
• Engage in and seek out professional growth and development opportunities to promote one’s lifelong learning and to further knowledge and best practices in education

Founded in 1958 by professors from St. John's College, Key School engages children from 2.5 years of age through grade 12 in a progressive, coeducational, college-preparatory, day program on its picturesque 15-acre campus located 4 miles from downtown Annapolis. Perhaps no mandate in Key School's Mission Statement lies closer to the heart of the community than its injunction to "Sustain an ethical school culture that engenders an inherent respect for the dignity of every human being, recognizes that personal liberty must be balanced by personal responsibility and individual action by the needs of others, and stresses to all members of the School community the importance of trust, mutual respect, and compassion."

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Spanish, unless native speaker); master's degree in education preferred.
• Minimum two years of experience teaching Spanish
• Fluency and expertise in conversational and written Spanish
• Strong initiative and organizational skills
• An ability to work in a joyful, culturally responsive, and collaborative environment

Position responsibilities:

• Teach Spanish through a multidimensional approach, with an emphasis on oral communication and culture.
• Organize classroom systems and procedures and manage student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged and learning.
• Promote principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and justice in both classroom program and practices
• Implement progressive teaching and learning activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences
• Assess students’ knowledge for the purposes of refining classroom activities and provide feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations, and goals
• Create a caring community for learning through thoughtful, individual relationships with all students and families
• Actively seek opportunities for professional learning
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned by the Lower School Division Head
