Gateway School, in beautiful Santa Cruz, CA, is a CAIS accredited, independent K-8 day school of approximately 180 students that fosters intellectual curiosity, personal compassion, and active engagement. Our school is notable for its innovative instruction and programs, close student-teacher relationships, supportive parent community, and small classes.
Gateway School is seeking to hire a Middle School Spanish Teacher. Preferred candidates will have a belief that collaboration enriches one’s work, and outstanding personal integrity.

The position includes:
- Teaching 6th, 7th grade and 8th Grade Spanish using mission-aligned pedagogy;
- Implementing existing curriculum and engaging in curriculum planning;
- Serving as an Advisor implementing the Developmental Designs advisory model;
- Integrating a whole child approach that includes elements such as emotional intelligence, character education, mindfulness, and conflict resolution;
- Integrating technology into in-person and possible remote instruction;
- Teaching as part of a grade-level team of teachers;
- Collaborating with an Elementary Spanish teacher;
- Leading overnight field trips, student clubs, and other extracurricular duties;
- Other duties, such as playground, dismissal, and admissions events;
- Excellent communication skills with families, students, colleagues and administration, on both a regular and ad-hoc basis.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Successful classroom teaching experience at the elementary, middle, or secondary leve
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and proactively with all members of the community, including students, faculty, staff, and parents
Preferred candidates will also possess the following qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Current teaching credential
- Knowledge and understanding of independent schools
- Knowledge and understanding of child development, neuroscience-based instruction, and effective differentiation
- An understanding of and/or commitment to furthering community conversations about justice and equity
