As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Curriculum and Innovation will do a full assessment of the current N-12 curriculum and work to develop continuity and consistency across all Divisions that are in alignment with AC’s mission, vision and core values. The Director will collaborate with the academic leaders to create courses and programs that match the student-centered and experiential learning that AC is known for.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Collaborate with Division Heads to provide professional development sessions covering topics that include problem-based and inquiry-based learning;
- Oversee AC’s Center Leaders through regularly scheduled meetings to align the signature programs with the rest of the school’s N-12 curriculum;
- Serve as a resource to staff regarding current research and best practices around teaching and learning;
- Design, deliver, and oversee professional development and growth experiences in areas of innovation, technology integration and instructional design, and work with faculty to foster an environment of thoughtful, creative, and independent use of instructional tools in the curriculum;
- Work with Division Heads to meet with, observe, debrief, and teach demonstration lessons related to teacher goals and targeted areas of growth for grades N-12;
- Working alongside the Director of Equity and Community Engagement in evaluation of curricular materials and pedagogical practices to ensure adherence to best practices for diversity, equity, and inclusion;
- Collaborate with Division Heads, Center Leaders, and the Director of Equity and Community Engagement to provide regular audits of the curriculum with a lens on diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging;
- Play a role in ensuring the school’s Strategic Priorities are mission-aligned, inclusive, ambitious, and relevant;
- Oversee the work of our Curriculum Review to ensure we are on track in developing and maintaining documents for accreditation;
- Oversee the Center Leaders in working to align the signature programs with the rest of the school’s N-12 curriculum;
- Communicate requirements and progress of the curriculum development process to the AC faculty, administration, and the larger community;
- Lead May Term, an in-depth, hands-on learning experience during the last three weeks of school for grades 6-12 in collaboration with teaching faculty;
- Partner with Division Heads to recruit strong faculty and promote faculty growth through formal and informal evaluations, classroom observations, and coaching on a variety of instructional strategies;
- Coordinate curriculum material reviews in partnership with Division Heads;
- Assist Head of School with school-wide Strategic Planning as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred;
- 5+ years experience in teaching and/or administration in schools;
- Bring a growth mindset and excitement to further the school’s mission;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: written, verbal, presentation, and training;
- Student-centered, culturally proactive, and responsive pedagogy in which all students are met where they are, and see themselves represented and valued;
- Knowledge of models in instructional design, universal design for learning, and project-based learning and experience helping faculty design curriculum that applies these practices to teaching and learning;
- Willingness to research, learn, and share new technologies with students and faculty;
- A demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging;
- Possess strong organization and communication skills;
- Have the ability to motivate, support and lead others.
