Friends School of Baltimore is currently seeking a qualified multi-skilled and versatile individual to fill the full-time role of Operations Technician. This position provides skilled work in the maintaining, installing, altering, and repairing of components relating to the campus and its various buildings. Employees in this job classification work directly under the supervision of the Associate Director of Facilities while performing tasks either independently or with other members of the department.
Responsibilities:
- Carpentry: use of planer, circular saws, dust extraction equipment, drill, and undertake repairs to counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, wall finishes and trims, tiling, general joinery, woodwork, maintenance and use of abrasive wheels equipment, basic carpentry, and installing window blinds and shades
- Painting: apply paint, stain and other finishes to buildings walls, ceilings, and furniture using brushes, spray guns, or rollers. Apply primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces for finish coats
- Maintenance of all athletic fields to include lining; installing, setting up, and moving goals; playground equipment, bleachers, athletic equipment, and filling of sand boxes
- General cleanup of grounds and trash removal
- Maintenance of sidewalks, walkways, roads, steps, and parking lots including snow and ice removal
- Replace light bulbs
- Unclog drains, gutters, and downspouts
- Prepare and set up spaces for special meetings and other school-related activities
- Perform or assist in repairs and/or installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, pumps, motors, furniture, and hardware.
- Be able to operate a pick-up truck, van, tractor, and other motor driven vehicles
- Secure buildings against vandalism, lock and unlock doors, and turn off lights
- Masonry to include: plastering, drilling, maintenance and use of abrasive equipment, undertake patch repairs to wall finishes, and basic masonry
- Performs service and repairs on a wide variety of electrical, mechanical, and building equipment
- Implement preventative maintenance procedures
- Complete multi-trade assignments and responsibilities based on daily operational needs
- Maintain or return items to proper operating conditions by using a variety of tools, testing, and calibration equipment and apply accepted maintenance, service, and repair procedures
- Undertake all work to the highest standard possible and in line with current best practices and guidelines
- Demonstrate a positive and professional approach at all times, ensuring positive interactions and the highest standard of customer service and satisfaction
- Partner with security personnel to protect the School’s physical assets and personnel
- Participate in on-campus pedestrian and vehicular traffic control activities
- Active member of the campus’ response to emergency evacuations
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and security guidelines, policies, procedures, and regulations that are set by the School and various governmental agencies
- Report maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, injuries, and complete all assigned safety training and certifications
- Maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies
- Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
- Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than xx pounds without assistance
- Inspect buildings, equipment, and systems to identify issues
- In the event of an emergency that occurs outside of regular working hours; such as fallen trees, flooding, or removal of snow and ice; will need to report to work when requested to help address the emergency
- Performs other reasonable job duties as requested by Associate Director of Facilities-
Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent, education in technical studies from an accredited institution, or equivalent qualification with previous experiences in a similar role
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in preventive maintenance
- Knowledgeable in carpentry, masonry, painting and building maintenance.
- Knowledgeable of the safe operations of hand and power tools along with workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.
- Must be able to work in hot, cold and wet conditions and be able to stoop, kneel, crawl, and climb on all type of surfaces
- Good in written and spoken English
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- A team player with the ability to work under pressure
