Qualifications: Requires Bachelor’s degree

Responsibilities:

• Serves as a support for assigned student within the classroom. The primary goal of this work is to be “teaching on the spot” so the student can master issues with their social encounters
• Supports assigned student by using sensory, social, behavior, and academic strategies
• Monitors assigned student’s classroom and or playground/community activities to maintain a safe and positive learning environment
• Maintains a strong support role for the classroom teacher though never interfering with the operation with the class
• Builds a strong relationship with every teacher that the student being shadowed comes in contact with
• Attends bi-monthly meetings with the Program Director, coordinating and reporting on the student’s progress
• Works with other JAC personnel when your assigned students needs further intervention or help
• Communicates and partners with classroom teachers to ensure that the assigned student is making acceptable progress in the classroom and special areas
• Communicates data collection and documentation weekly by email to the Program Director
• Assists with clerical duties such as preparing materials, record keeping, safety/maintenance of supplies and equipment, and scheduling activities, as directed 
• Maintains confidentiality with regard to student records and information
• Communicates with parents of students in coordination with the Program Director. 
• Attends parent conferences of students, when appropriate
• Consistently participates in professional development activities by reviewing materials and trainings to ensure that knowledge is current
• Completes a weekly update on each student’s progress
• Maintains a log of communication on each individual student including the date
• Attends divisional and JAC faculty meetings and general meetings
• Serves as an ambassador for FCDS
• Assists the Director of the JAC with any duties assigned

Physical requirements:

• Must be able to observe and move with student in their school environments (classroom, playground, PE)
• Must be able to lift small children
• Must be able to utilize safe non-violent crisis intervention techniques with students
• Must be able to perform the following gross motor activities:
• Bending over (e.g. to assist child with writing)
• Squatting
• Running
• Carrying 

Job Requirements

• Pass a background check
• Have experience with children under the age of 11
• Have a basic understanding of child development 
• Have a basic knowledge of behavior management
• Able to think outside the box to accommodate the learner
• Differentiate curriculum for the student 
• Have an understanding of how to collect data that will create effective interventions
• Have a collaborative mindset
• Willing to attend further training if necessary
• Depending on the age of the student, be ready to help with personal care needs
