Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Family Life Programs, the Assistant Director, will provide operational oversight and hands-on implementation to programs within the Family Life Programs portfolio including: Extended Day, Special Classes, and Summer Lab at The University of Chicago Laboratory Schools Earl Shaprio Hall. The Assistant Director will align program offerings with the developmental scope and sequence to support grades nursery-2 in coordination with the Schools’ administrative teams. The Assistant Director will offer assistance to the Associate Director in assessing staff strengths through formal and informal observations.
Responsibilities
- Ensures a positive family experience in the Extended Day and Summer Lab programs.
- Collaborates with the daytime administrative team and faculty.
- Point of contact for families regarding questions about the Extended Day and Summer Lab programs.
- Supports the in-class activities within the Extended Day program.
- In collaboration with the FLP Associate Director, provides guidance and support to staff in an effort to meet program goals, and balance group and individual growth.
- On a daily basis, ensures the program is operating safely and efficiently.
- Coordinates the process for ensuring all children are accounted for daily.
- Supports the development and refinement of systems used to organize and execute the program each day including Jumbula, PowerSchool, Google docs, as well as the development of non-electronic-based systems to support program operations.
- Uses short and long-range plans to support registration, communications, and daily operational tasks focusing on student safety and growth.
- Develops a plan to broaden scope and scale of program offerings, and ensures appropriate diversity of activities are available.
- Supports the development and creation of program-wide initiatives.
- Advises, supports, and recommends concepts for programming to leaders of various organizations and programs.
- Communicates and discusses contract terms with outside vendors. Administers contracts. Maintains organizational records and archives relevant information and program materials. Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in education.
- Master's degree in a related field.
Experience:
- Experience working with students and student organizations.
- At least two years of experience working with school-age children or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of one year of experience managing projects or programs.
- Supervisory experience.
