University School seeks an Upper School College Counselor/Assistant Director of College Counseling.
The ideal candidate will have admission experience at a selective college or university, college counseling experience at the secondary level, or both. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent writing and presentation abilities, possess strong organizational skills, have highly-developed senses of humor and empathy, and a desire to work collaboratively with other members of the school community. Title and responsibilities will be commensurate with experience and credentials.
General Responsibilities
- Advise and guide students and families throughout the college admissions process (Counselors are assigned specific counselees in the fall of junior year)
- Provide financial aid analysis and counseling for students and families
- Write letters of reference in support of student applications
- Supervise the distribution of supporting documents to colleges and universities on behalf of counselees
- Collaborate with college counseling colleagues in the development of workshops for students and families to educate them about the college process
- Teach multiple sections of College Counseling Class for seniors (fall) and juniors (spring) using established curriculum
- Provide academic advising to students grades 9-12 as part of the annual course selection process
- Meet with and maintain strong relationships with college admissions representatives
- Visit colleges and universities to maintain up-to-date information for the department and interested students
- Maintain affiliations with professional organizations including, but not limited to NACAC, ACCIS, OACAC, and CCIS
- Assist in the development of programming for CCIS events including Navigating the College Process, Athletic Recruitment Night, and Financial Aid Night
- Serve as a Sponsor (faculty advisor) for 8-10 students in the Upper School
- Participate meaningfully in the life of the school though attending student events and possibly teaching/coaching/sponsoring a club
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of College Counseling
