Open Position: Middle & Upper School PE & Health Teacher

Reports To: Director of the Middle School

When Needed: 2022-2023 Academic Year

Job Summary:

Under minimal supervision and in a collaborative environment, designs and teaches up to four Middle School PE/Health classes per semester in grades 6^th-8^th and one Upper School PE/Health Intensive three-week course per year.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Teaches at least four sections of Physical Education/Health per semester
• Engages in curriculum design and development with other department members and colleagues to support the growth and development of our 6-12 grade program with a particular focus on the middle school sequence.
• Designs and delivers curriculum that supports our departmental and school commitment to social justice and global citizenship
• Provides classroom instruction and management
• Serves as advisor to 10-12 students
• Actively participates in the life of the school
• Participates on a grade-level curricular team and attends all department meetings
• Vigorously engages in his/her own professional development
• Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining an open dialogue with all of the schools constituencies
• Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the schools documents
• Since safety and security are everyone's responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
• Performs other duties as assigned

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Physical Education & Health/Exercise Science or related field required
• Recent successful PE and Health teaching experience in a Middle School or Upper School environment required
• Teaching Certificate preferred
• Advanced degree in education or the subject area preferred
• 2+ years teaching experience preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Demonstrated competence in the content area and pedagogy for quality Health & Physical Education
• Good understanding of the developmental needs of Middle School and High School students
• Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the students and program
• Sense of humor, energy and enthusiasm and ability to hold students and oneself to high expectations
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
• Ability to create an active learning environment that supports understanding, passion and creativity in students
• Ability to prepare lessons to appeal to a variety of learning styles, needs and accommodations
• Ability to use formative assessments and strategies in the classroom
• Deep interest in being part of a community as a colleague and grade-level team member
• Experience being part of a curricular and co-curricular team preferred
• Interest in coaching, outdoor or club advising preferred
• Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
• Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
• Ability to maintain confidential information
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity

• Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft or Mac environment using Office, Google Drive and Outlook.
• Comfortable with operating Audio/Visual equipment
• Ability to work and communicate with all levels of faculty and staff, students and families
