The Director of College Counseling will support students and their parents/guardians throughout the college research, application, and selection process, guiding classes of approximately 25 students per grade level. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, the ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse student and parent/guardian population, and up-to-date knowledge of colleges and universities both nationwide and internationally and the programs they offer. Housing may be provided.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Meeting with students individually and in groups to educate and empower them on how to navigate the college process, admissions trends, and individual college prospects in determining the best all-around college match for each student.
- Serving as a liaison and communicating between and with students, families, and college admission offices as needed.
- Submitting student application support documentation, i.e., official transcripts, recommendations, report forms, and school profile, as needed.
- Writing the School Letter of Reference.
- Scheduling and hosting college admissions representatives to visit the School.
- Counseling and assisting students and families to identify resources for scholarships and financial aid for colleges and universities.
- Facilitating SAT testing for students, including scheduling test dates, registering students, and administering the exams.
- Coordinating the faculty writing and processing of requested recommendations for students applying to college.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with colleges through attendance at conferences, counselor information sessions, and college visits.
- Participating in professional development to promote self-growth, build relationships and remain current with programs, policies, and practices that meet the needs of our students.
- Planning/Offering/Leading an annual week-long Spring Break College Tour.
- Participation in the school’s residential program.
- Leading by example and modeling the expected tone for the school.
- Supporting the school and its leadership and participating and support school-wide events
- To perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
3-5 years experience working in college counseling
